Paleo + Beer is (relatively) easy

I am about two weeks in to really focusing on nutrition (I should note that I ate pretty well to begin with).  The transition is pretty easy and I don't miss the things I gave up nearly as much as I thought I would.

I stopped drinking milk for breakfast, stopped putting cheese in my eggs and am taking cream out of the coffee next week.  At that point I will be dairy free.

I also shifted to more vegetables than fruit and am eating vegetables and nuts every morning for breakfast...usually with eggs.

I even purchased humus without wearing a disguise.

I eliminated "cheat" meals.  Nothing against them, I just lost the desire to intentionally screw myself up twice a week.

I also cut one WOD from my weekly training schedule.  My body feels better.  We'll see if my performance suffers over time.  I am now on 4 CFE Strength and Conditioning WODS and 2 CFE Running WODS per week.  I am adding extra push-ups and pull-ups to improve my "Murph" on Memorial Day.

The main challenge: snacks.  I need to get more creative when shopping.  I love almonds, but only so much.

International Adoption Saved My Son's Life

K_k_bn

Without International Adoption my son would have died of starvation in a part of Ethiopia unknown to almost all of humanity. Instead, a brave family member carried him 25 kilometers to an International Adoption agency where he was saved. That same agency now sponsors, educates, feeds and clothes his siblings. Thousands of similar acts of kindness are carried out in that country every year. Obviously adoption is loved and celebrated by Ethiopia... oops...I live in reality. Ethiopian bureaucrats clearly do not. Ethiopia's disgusting position: dramatically reduce International Adoption to cut down on "corruption". Are they friggin' serious? Ethiopia has a wildly corrupt government. The streets of Addis Ababa are lined with starving, sick, homeless women. Most of whom have children. Many of whom turn to prostitution to stay alive. There is virtually no industry, few jobs and little hope for a brighter future. http://filledwithpraise.blogspot.com/

Getting my Paleo On

I started CrossFit late in 2009. I danced around Paleo for most of 2010.  I "participated" in a few Paleo Challenges.  I tried going cold turkey.  It didn't work.  I would start, run out of eggs and pound a glass of milk for breakfast.  Since I just blew the challenge I had a PBJ for lunch and a few beer at night for good measure.

Then I put my suit pants on...I rarely wear a suit as I am self employeed...and they fit exactly like they did a year ago.  A victory for most, but I beat my ass CrossFitting 5 times a week and expected some improvement. Basically I am faster, stronger and more flexible but my friggin' body is almost the same.  Awesome! I am a really fit guy with 18 percent body fat.

That was the catalysit I needed.  I paid more attention to a post on Mark's Daily Apple (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/) and started easing my way into it.  That was about 60 days ago.

I am not a strict Paleo guy.  I still drink beer, I eat cake when my Grandma makes it and I even have a bun on a burger from time to time.  My eating puts me at about 90% compliance.  And, here's the shocker, I am finally starting to drop the body fat.

I am going to chronicle my Paleo lifestyle on this blog.  Look for several posts a week.
